memorial day

it's memorial day, the day to remember those who fight and die to ensure (insure?) our freedom, so we in this house did our best to support the troops by going shopping. what? you say. going shopping? why yes. see, shopping results in purchasing which results in paying sales tax which results in tax revenues for the local govt which are supposed to trickle up. trickle up? you say. how? well, more local taxes should mean my local area is less dependent on state taxes and federal taxes. the more we here support our local businesses, the more we here should gain self-sufficiency. so? so. that leaves more state tax dollars for the state, which in turn means the state requires fewer federal funds, and wah-lah, more federal money to do federal things such as providing for the common defense, promoting the general welfare, securing the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. well, i don't know if i could speak to how well that's all working, or really, whether that's how the system is designed to work, or even the bigger issue of whether that is how it "should" work. but it sounds both reasonable and good, and pluswise, the keds were on sale.
