the bottom line here, really, is that tom cruise is a fine specimen.

finished paradise war and started irish tweed. i do like andrew greeley books, but cripes, they are just not edited anymore. greeley's an irish catholic priest who's written about a billion books, so i'm sure he's got a lot of influence at his publisher, and i'm sure he wants his stories unchanged, but the mistakes are ridiculous. names and faux-irish words spelled one way here, another way there. inconsistencies in characteristics of people and places. repetitions & redundancies. it's really sort of distracting from an otherwise gentle & entertaining tale. he's a good storyteller, and i'm always after a good story, but forsooth, the errors are a distraction & a shame.

watching far & away with tom cruise & nicole kidman. mr cruise is a fine looking man, he is. interestingly enough, he & nicole are portraying irish folk in this fine tale. irish in the book & irish in the screen. course ms kidman is an aussie & ol' tom's a yank, so there's really no irish here at all. looked for a pic of ol' tom in this movie, and this is all i could come up with.

speaking of irish, vandy girls lost today. okay, that's got nothing to do with irish, but there is a post theme to uphold. vandy was the last sec team in the march madness - boys or girls. they lost to maryland. vandy was the underdog, but they had like a 15 pt lead going for a while - just couldn't hold it. sort of crumbled under the pressure. started shooting too quickly, lost focus on defense. frustrating to watch, really. sort of like trying to read a greeley novel, thru all the errors.
