sarah palin for vp

on the one hand, i am excited -- she is someone new, young, different, from outside washington, ready to shake things up, and on the other hand, i am realizing that is exactly what obama is promising and exactly why i do not think he's ready to be president. on the other hand [how many hands do i have, anyway??], i do think obama would make a better v-p candidate than a presidential candidate, so i am at least somewhat consistent.

sheesh.

do i think i would like sarah-p personally because she is a feisty woman with 5 kids who likes the great out of doors & hunts & fishes? hellz-yeh! do i admire her because she went ahead with the birth of her down syndrome son, knowing he had down syndrome the entire time? hellz-yeh! do i admire the way she took on good-ol'-boy alaska politics and threw a monkey wrench in their pork-barrel system? hellz-yeh! would i be comfortable thinking she was representing me in talks with ahmadinejad? gulp... uh... hell, no?

i am not certain what the v-p does. who is? but, i do think there is a large element of foreign policy negotiation traditionally thrust on the veep b/c... uh... what else is he doing? he's got to earn his keep, eh? gets a nice house, salary, use of air force 2. needs to do something productive, so they generally scuttle him off to handle foreign dignitaries. perhaps mccain will handle the foreign dignitaries himself, and li'l sarah-p can learn how things work. alternately, she can not learn how things work, and she can make things work the way she thinks they should.

what about obama & the lack of experience? experience is much more essential as a president than a v-p, eh? i mean, the veep can spend time learning and take on more & more duties. also, let's remember that the cabinet, chiefs of staff, senate & house leadership, supreme court all play their parts in running the country. i am not totally convinced the pres & veep do that much, anyway. how much power do those 2 people have, in our system of checks & balances? it's more a question of whose face do you want to be the face of you, to the world.
