tonight is striped suit night on the news. two commentators and a reporter and even a dead guy were all in pinstripes.

did you ever have a dos computer? not a "spanish word for two" computer. a disk-operating-system, dos, computer. like, before windows. did you know there were computers before windows? oh, helz-yeh. at first, you pretty much had to tell the computer step-by-step what you wanted to do, but it wasn't too long before some folks invented word processors and spreadsheets and other programs. but, the computers were still dos, which means they did not have windows, which means - you could only do one thing at a time. one.thing.at.a.time. like, open a spreadsheet, work in it a while, then save it & close it. then, open the word processor and write a memo. and, if you wanted to copy some stuff from the spreadsheet to the memo, you had to write it down - that's right - write it down like on a piece of paper with a pencil... and then retype it into the word processor. there was no copying between programs. there was barely copying within a program. marking a block & copying it & pasting it was a major hassle. oh, and there was no mouse. oh, and there was no email. like, you would write this memo & spreadsheet, and then print them out on your daisy-wheel printer and staple them together and drop them into the company mail box. and, when was this dark-ages of computing? when were we all stumbling & bumbling around in pre-windows ignorance? oh... let's see... that would be a looong time ago, right? yeah, like 20 years. hmm... not that long, eh?
